The plot of the movie is set 10 years after the events of the first film, where humanity fought against the Kaiju, colossal creatures that emerged from an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Jake Pentecost (Boyega), the son of the legendary Jaeger pilot Stacker Pentecost, who sacrificed his life to close the portal, is a former pilot who now lives as a scavenger in a war-torn world.
